Calata Corp has tapped the Francorp to expand the farm inputs distributor's retail network nationwide and possibly market its products abroad.
MANILA - Calata Corp today said it has tapped the Philippine unit of a franchise-consulting firm in a bid to expand the farm inputs distributor's retail network nationwide and possibly market its products abroad.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the listed company said its board approved the establishment of 1,000 stores, adding to its 116 outlets in Luzon.
In line with this, Calata has signed up Franchise Corp of the Philippines (Francorp) to provide advise on the expansion.
"The contract for franchise development program, shall be effective for one year from the time of signing which is today, July 3," said Calata corporate secretary Jose Marie Fabella.
Incorporated in 1996, Francorp is part of the worldwide network of Francorp International. The Philippine unit's clients include Jollibee Foods Corp, The Generics Pharmacy, Max’s Restaurant, Goldilocks, Pancake House, Bench and others -- all accounting for a fourth of franchise businesses in the country. Calata is also looking into marketing its "Agri" brand abroad, but Fabella provided no details.
Besides its own brand, Calata also distributes San Miguel Corp's B-Meg feeds and veterinary products; the agro-chemicals of Syngenta, Bayer, Jardine and Dupont Sinochem; the seeds of East West Seeds, Monsanto and Planters Products; and the fertilizer products of Swire and Viking.
